  • Healing Words
    Jun 23 2026

    By Annie

    Proverbs 12:18 NCV

Careless words stab like a sword, but wise words bring healing.

The Bible reads: "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" {Matthew 12:34}.

Also, "Whoever guards their mouth and tongue will be kept out of trouble" {Proverbs 21:23}.

Growing up, I was always sensitive to the harsh words people spoke to me or about me. I didn't have sisters growing up, but I know that some of the neighborhood girls, classmates, and girls at school, I know they talked about me.

It wasn't until I started diving deeper into God's word that I realized that what we speak, if not well of others (which actually is blessing others), is pure evil. Gossip is the worst. Church gossip is no exception. There IS even gossip in the church, sad to say.

But I think the way in which we conduct ourselves comes with maturity.

Gossip is considered a sin. It destroys relationships, harms others, is a sign of a flawed heart, and leads to negative consequences. Gossip is NOT one of the fruits of the Spirit.

The fruits of the Spirit are: LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, KINDNESS & SELF-CONTROL.

God commands us to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).“

Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another. (John 13:34-35)

Father God, forgive me of my sins. Forgive me for not speaking or thinking well of others. I pray that your Word remains deep in my heart so as not to sin against you. May my thoughts, my words, and my actions be kind and gentle toward others. May I be a small portion of how Jesus is. May my walk be a witness unto you, God.

Order my steps, guide me today, and dwell within me so that I can be the virtuous woman of God you have called me to be.

  • Power Source
    Jun 9 2026

    By Annie

    EXALTATION - Psalm 46:10 ESV

Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Today's devotional discusses God as our power source. The other day, I sat down early in the morning as per usual and read this verse. I had every intention of praying, meditating, reflecting, and journaling. I didn't get to do any of this at all.
I got distracted. All of a sudden, I found myself thinking, 'Remind me to bring my Canon M50 to work to take photos of that night’s event.' Then, one thing led to another, and I completely skipped my devotional and journaling, proceeding to search for my battery charger. I looked high and low in places I thought made sense where this battery charger would be, only to fail in locating it. I was perplexed that I could not find it. Then I tried using a cable I thought would fit to charge it, but that did not work, either.

This had me thinking: A device without a power source is DEAD.

Much like this verse points to God as our power source in life, without Him, we cannot fight the spiritual battle we face. He is our strength, our power, our strong tower. The enemy constantly throws obstacles in our path to keep us from our source. I know this all too well. I have many distractions, and when I am flustered, my focus is away from God.

Sometimes, battery-powered devices don't always work as well as being connected to an electrical outlet. I feel when my energy begins to drain, I get easily frustrated, even condescending, and maybe even mean or sarcastic. These are not fruits of the Holy Spirit. Every day and always, we should not grieve the Holy Spirit, and instead, we are to always show kindness and grace to one another.

You see, this illustration taught me that when we are drained spiritually, it becomes very difficult to keep up our energy. So long as we can keep ourselves "plugged into" our power source, our Heavenly Father, we can rely on God's energy to sustain us. Amen
