  • Ep 122: What Got You Here May Be Keeping You Here
    Oct 8 2026

Is what got you here still capable of taking you where you're trying to go? Sometimes the thing standing between you and your next chapter isn't something you don't know. It's something you already know.

In this episode of The Shattered Mindset Podcast, Melvin Larry takes on a hard kind of growth: questioning the things that worked. Failure gets our attention. Success gives us evidence we were right, and that makes it harder to see when a lesson has finished its job.

Melvin talks about the difference between an experience and the meaning we attach to it. He shares how growing up shorter than everyone shaped what he believed about himself. He also explains why, now that his sons are all taller than him, the same fact means something completely different. He talks about becoming a beginner again in podcasting after years as a church audio and video technician, and why being vulnerable on the show still challenges his private, introverted nature. He revisits advice a leader gave him more than 20 years ago and explains how he applies it differently today. He also covers the person many of us find hardest to forgive: ourselves.

Along the way, he shows how limiting beliefs often don't sound limiting. They sound like experience. "I've tried that before." "That's just who I am." "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Your past deserves a voice. It just doesn't get the final say.

    In this episode:

    • Why it's harder to question something that worked than something that failed
    • The difference between an experience and the interpretation you attached to it
    • How a lesson can outlive the situation that created it
    • Why limiting beliefs often sound like experience instead of fear
    • Confusing identity with repetition, and why "that's just who I am" deserves a question
    • Using the dots and lines to find where a belief came from
    • Principle vs. method: the principle stays, the application evolves
    • How old beliefs stop you from taking the action that would produce new evidence
    • Why success is "the progressive realization of a worthy ideal"
    • How to honor the person you used to be without letting them make every decision

  • Ep 121: Your Story Isn't About You
    Oct 1 2026

It's your story. But it's not about you. The stories you keep telling don't just describe your life. They shape it.

In this episode of The Shattered Mindset Podcast, Melvin Larry revisits a presentation he gave years before this podcast existed. It was called The Power of Stories, and inside it he finds the same idea this show was later built on: life's turning points and defining moments.

Melvin walks through the three elements found in most meaningful stories: a challenge, a transition, and a defining moment. He shows why those three don't always happen close together. He retells the car accident he survived at 16 and explains how its meaning unfolded over 30 years. Part of that came from finally understanding, as a father himself, why his own father reacted the way he did that night.

He also covers the side of storytelling most people miss. The stories we repeat about ourselves can turn into limiting beliefs and rehearsed identities. Through stories of missed opportunities, prejudging people, a year of five family losses, and a manager who said he'd never advance, Melvin shows how to discover, develop, and deliver your story so it serves someone besides you.

    In this episode:

    • The three elements of a meaningful story: challenge, transition, and defining moment
    • Why the meaning of an experience can take decades to show itself
    • How the S.I.F.T. Process™ explains why two people tell the same event so differently
    • How repeated stories become limiting beliefs and rehearsed identities
    • Missed opportunities, assumptions, and the influence you don't realize you have
    • Why perseverance sometimes just means putting one foot in front of the other
    • How to discover, develop, and deliver your own story with purpose
    • Why legacy isn't just what you leave to people, but what you leave in them

  • Ep 120: You've Been Reading the Wrong Map
    Sep 24 2026

Africa is fourteen times bigger than Greenland. What else have you been wrong about?

For four hundred and fifty years, the world looked at a map that quietly lied about the size of an entire continent — and almost nobody stopped to check it. In this episode, Melvin Larry breaks down why that happened, and why the same thing has been happening inside you. The belief you've been carrying about who you are, what you're capable of, and what's still possible for you — where did that map actually get drawn? A parent, a teacher, a failure, a season that's long over? This episode walks through what that wrong map has already cost you, a real story about a cassette tape Melvin almost threw away that turned into millions in business, and a practical way to actually redraw the map for yourself, starting today.
