• Day 292 | Ishmael slays Gedaliah and his men | 1 Timothy 4: Life and Doctrine
    Oct 20 2024

Day 292 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Post-fall-of-Jerusalem events unfold. Gedaliah is appointed as governor in Judah by the Babylonians. But, oh snap! Ishmael, of the royal family, assassins Gedaliah and causes a bunch of chaos, leading many to consider fleeing to Egypt. They ask Jeremiah what God thinks about that. Jeremiah's like, "Stay put, and you'll be fine. Go to Egypt, and you'll face disaster." But, classic move, they doubt Jeremiah and decide Egypt sounds great. Paul gives Timothy a heads-up: some people will abandon the faith for deceptive teachings, like forbidding marriage or certain foods. But Paul reminds him that everything God created is good if it's received with gratitude. He advises Timothy to focus on being a good servant of Christ, to train himself in godliness, and not to let anyone look down on him for being young.

  • Day 289 | The Lord responds to Jeremiah's prayer | 1 Timothy: An Introduction
    Oct 16 2025

Day 289 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. God confirms to Jeremiah that, yes, the city will be handed over to the Babylonians because the people of Israel have been super naughty. Despite this grim news, God also promises that eventually, He'll bring them back, and they'll buy fields in the land again. Chapter 33 further emphasizes God's promise to restore Israel and Judah, bringing health, healing, and a descendant of David as a righteous king. In Chapter 34, Jeremiah gives King Zedekiah a heads up: he's going to be captured by the king of Babylon. The chapter wraps with a bit about how the people had briefly freed their Hebrew slaves, but then re-enslaved them, which, as you might guess, doesn't make God happy at all. In 1 Timothy 1, Paul writes to his buddy Timothy and gives him a sort of pep talk. He tells him to warn others in Ephesus about teaching wrong doctrines and getting sidetracked by myths. Paul then gets a bit personal, thanking Jesus for his own transformation from a former blasphemer and persecutor to a believer. He emphasizes God's immense grace and patience. The chapter wraps up with Paul reminding Timothy to hold onto his faith and keep a good conscience.

  • Day 287 | A New Jerusalem. 2 Thessalonians 2: The Evil One returns
    Oct 14 2025

Day 287 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Starting from Jeremiah 29:24, Jeremiah writes letters about false prophets, Shemaiah and Ahab. Then, God's promises come into the spotlight. Despite Israel's exile, God has plans for their welfare and return. The famous "new covenant" is introduced in Chapter 31: God promises to put His law in their hearts, ensuring a close, personal relationship. There's also a poetic bit about how the Lord will turn mourning into joy. It's a mix of "Watch out for these liars!" and "Good times are coming, trust me!" from God. Paul addresses some confusion about Jesus' return. He says there'll be a rebellion first and a "man of lawlessness" will show up, opposing God. But Jesus will eventually defeat this guy. Paul encourages the Thessalonians to hold onto what they've been taught and prays for their encouragement and strength. In short, some wild stuff's gonna happen before Jesus comes back, but hang in there and stick to the faith!

  • Day 286 | Jeremiah wears a yoke. Jerusalem is captured by Babylon. 2 Thessalonians: Intro
    Oct 13 2025

Day 286 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Jeremiah tells the people that they're going to be under Babylon's rule for a while and should just accept it. He even wears a yoke to make his point. False prophets say the opposite, but Jeremiah warns not to listen to them. He writes a letter to the exiles in Babylon, saying they'll return home after 70 years, so in the meantime, they should settle in and pray for the city they're in. In short, Jeremiah's telling them, "This is your life for now, so make the best of it and don't believe the hype." Paul, along with Silas and Timothy, greets the church in Thessalonica and praises them for growing in faith and love despite persecution. Paul assures them that God will bring justice and they should remain steadfast. Essentially, it's like saying, "Hey, you're doing great under tough circumstances, and don't worry, payback's coming for those making your life hard."

  • Day 285 | The Lord serves up a glass of anger | 1 Thessalonians 5: Be ready for the Lord
    Oct 12 2025

Day 285 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Jeremiah gives a tough message: God's gonna make nations drink a "cup of wrath" that'll mess them up. Then, Jeremiah's words get him into trouble, and he's put on trial for saying the temple would be destroyed. But he sticks to his message, and some people actually stand up for him, so he's not killed. Paul tells the Thessalonians that nobody knows when the "Day of the Lord" will come; it'll be a surprise. So, they should stay awake and sober, wearing faith and love as armor. He also gives quick advice like: be joyful, pray a lot, and say thanks in all situations. He wraps it up by asking for prayers and telling them to greet each other warmly. So basically, be ready, be good, and love one another.
