• Episode 33: Putting Self-Care First in the New Year
    Feb 9 2026

    Hi friends, and welcome back.

If this is your first time listening — I’m so glad you’re here.
And if you’ve been with me before… thank you for welcoming me back. It feels really good to be sitting here again.

As we step into a new year, I’ve been thinking a lot about self-care — and not the kind that feels like another thing on your to-do list.

January tends to come with so much pressure.
New goals. New habits. New rules.
And often, that pressure makes us feel like we need to fix ourselves.

But what if this year… we didn’t start by fixing anything?

What if we started by listening?

For me, putting self-care first this year isn’t about doing more — it’s about doing things differently.

    It’s asking simple questions like:

    • What actually supports me right now?
    • What feels nourishing instead of draining?
    • What can I let go of that’s been weighing me down?

Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive, time-consuming, or perfect.
Sometimes it looks like going to bed earlier.
Sometimes it’s saying no without explaining yourself.
Sometimes it’s eating a warm, nourishing meal instead of skipping lunch because you’re busy.

And sometimes, self-care is simply giving yourself permission to start gently.

If you’re feeling tired, unmotivated, or a little unsure of where to begin, you’re not behind. You’re human. And winter is a season that naturally asks us to slow down.

This year, I’m choosing to let self-care be about support, not pressure.
    About consistency, not extremes.
    About compassion, not perfection.

And as this podcast starts up again, that’s the space I want to hold here — real conversations, gentle reminders, and support for wherever you are in your journey.

So as we move into this new year together, I invite you to ask just one question:
What’s one small way I can take care of myself today?

    Not tomorrow. Not all year.
    Just today.

Thank you for being here. I’m so excited for what’s ahead — and I’m really grateful to be sharing this space with you again.

  • Episode 32: How addiction impacts the whole family By Jeff Jones
    Apr 23 2025

Our special guest today is Jeff Jones. Jeff Jones, MA, LPC, CRNC1, is the Founder of The Family Recovery Solution (TFRS) and Family Addiction Engagement Training (FAET).

The “Start with the Family First” method is a 3-5 year continuum of services, resources, and referrals that starts with education that inspires families to create and maintain conditions inhospitable to active addiction. Then, once your loved one is in recovery, our services expand to a holistic pathway of individual and family healing, as well as self-management of tracking change over time.

Jeff’s presentations offer tools for professionals to learn and incorporate into their services, specifically long-term family recovery engagement and nutritional complements for optimal brain function, so your clients ’ brains function optimally, and they can better incorporate what they are learning from your services.

Jeff is passionate about decreasing the daily deaths from addiction.

Because of his own upbringing, he sees how families are continually blamed, shamed, and separated from the addiction recovery healing process. He has seen that when family education begins while a loved one is still using drugs or alcohol, the family has an opportunity to practice new cognitive information, which begins customizing their own change process, now and into the future.

Jeff is part of the Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition’s community of practitioners trained by Christina Veselak. He is active in her non-profit, Eating Protein Saves Lives, Inc., which is guided by evidence-based research from the 1960s, now buried.

We start by talking about how Jeff got started in his career. We talked about how trauma impacts the whole family and the different roles that family members play during the stress and chaos of navigating addiction. Jeff gives us some practical tools and techniques families can use to improve communication and support.
