• Leadership Transition: Bringing It All Together
    Sep 22 2026

In episode 5 of The Leadership Shift, Caroline Huffam and Corinne Hollidge continue with the theme of leadership transitions, bringing together the previous episodes and asking the harder questions that challenge us to think about how do we fix this and who’s job is it anyway? Because Leadership expectations, individual readiness and organisational culture aren't separate from each other, they are co-dependent and therefore should be co-created.

What you'll learn in this episode:

    • Why the future of leadership is less about having all the answers and more about creating the conditions for others to succeed.
    • Why organisations may not have a leadership pipeline problem, but a leadership model problem where talented people are questioning whether current leadership roles are worth aspiring to.
    • How leadership has shifted from individual expertise and control towards adaptability, collaboration and shared responsibility in increasingly complex environments.
    • Why developing leaders is not enough - organisations also need to design cultures, systems and environments where leadership can thrive.
    • Why selecting high performers does not automatically create great leaders, and how leadership potential requires different capabilities from technical excellence.
    • How future leadership development should be viewed as a continuous journey of learning, reflection and identity rather than a one-off promotion or training programme.
    • Why sustainable leadership requires organisations to balance performance expectations with the wellbeing, development and long-term success of their leaders.
    • How role modelling shapes the next generation of leaders, with everyday leadership behaviours influencing whether others choose to step into leadership roles.
    • Why modern leadership requires confidence with uncertainty - embracing curiosity, learning and collective problem-solving rather than projecting certainty at all times.
    • Why the organisations that succeed in the future will be those that redefine leadership as a shared organisational capability, creating leaders who develop other leaders rather than followers.

The key takeaway from Episode 5 is that leadership isn't about carrying more. It's about leading differently. The future of leadership isn't about finding more heroic individuals who can carry more. It's about creating organisations where leadership is shared and supported whilst being adaptable and sustainable.

  • Reinventing Leadership for the Future
    Sep 8 2026

In episode 4 of The Leadership Shift, Caroline Huffam and Corinne Hollidge continue with the theme of leadership transitions, exploring how leadership can be reinvented for the future alongside some practical actions for you and your organisation.

What you'll learn in this episode:

    • Why leadership development needs to start before someone is promoted, rather than waiting until they are already in a leadership role.
    • Why leadership growth & development is an ongoing process, built through real experience, feedback, coaching and relationships - not just formal leadership training.
    • Why organisations need to identify and develop leadership potential earlier to build stronger future leadership pipelines.
    • Why the traditional "heroic leader" model is not sustainable, and why leadership needs to be more collective and shared.
    • Why leaders don't need to have all the answers - and how saying "I don't know" can create space for better ideas and stronger, more connected teams.
    • How leaders can build capability in others rather than creating dependency on themselves and why this is so important.
    • Why future leaders need to develop commercial, human and digital capabilities, including the ability to adapt to technology and AI.
    • Why wellbeing is a strategic leadership issue, not simply a personal responsibility or a nice-to-have.
    • Why organisations need to create the conditions for leaders to thrive, rather than expecting individuals to simply become more resilient.
    • Why the future of leadership depends on creating leaders who inspire others to want to lead too.

The key takeaway from Episode 4 is that leadership isn't about carrying more. It's about leading differently. The future of leadership isn't about finding more heroic individuals who can carry more. It's about creating organisations where leadership is shared and supported whilst being adaptable and sustainable.

  • Why Are Fewer People Choosing Leadership?
    Aug 25 2026

In episode 3 of The Leadership Shift, Caroline Huffam and Corinne Hollidge continue with theme of leadership transitions and explore why fewer people are choosing leadership.

What you'll learn in this episode:

    • Why more leaders are questioning whether leadership is sustainable, rather than simply questioning whether they personally want to lead.
    • How the modern leadership role has become more complex, with leaders expected to be strategists, coaches, communicators, change leaders, culture builders and increasingly digitally capable.
    • Why working harder isn't always the answer when a leader is struggling.
    • How successful leaders can become trapped by the very behaviours that made them successful earlier in their careers.
    • Why leaders don't need to have all the answers and why curiosity can be more valuable than certainty.
    • Why the environment of an organisation creates can be just as important as the capability of the individual leader.
    • Why leadership development is an organisational responsibility, not simply something the individual leader needs to manage themselves.
    • Why leadership pipelines are at risk when leadership looks like an exhausting and unsustainable proposition in organisations.
    • Why an aspect of the future of leadership will depend on moving away from "heroic leadership" towards communities of inspirational, emotional intelligent leaders.
    • Why the answer to successful leadership and leadership pipelines of the future will rely on the redesign of leadership so that people can lead without sacrificing their wellbeing, relationships or sense of purpose.

The key takeaway from Episode 3:

People may not be rejecting leadership itself. They may be rejecting the way leadership is currently designed.

  • Why Leadership Transition Matters More Than Organisations Realise
    Aug 11 2026

In episode 2 of The Leadership Shift, Caroline Huffam and Corinne Hollidge explore why leadership transition matters more than organisations realise.

What you'll learn in this episode:

    • Why leadership transition is an organisational issue, not just a personal or HR issue.
    • Why leadership transitions can be high-risk moments for organisations, even when the individual has previously been highly successful.
    • How leadership transition can affect much more than the individual leader, including business performance, employee engagement, retention, productivity and organisational culture.
    • The importance of relationships, organisational culture, politics and people in navigating a new leadership role.
    • Why curiosity and learning can be more valuable than feeling that you need to have all the answers immediately.
    • What can happen when leadership transitions go wrong, including slower decision-making, lower energy, frustration and the potential loss of good people. The impact can spread beyond the individual leader and affect wider teams and the organisation.
    • Why organisations should support leaders beyond their first 90 days, rather than assuming the transition is complete once someone has started the role. It should be viewed as an ongoing organisational investment rather than a one-off event.
    • What successful organisations are doing differently to support leadership transitions.
    • Why coaching, mentoring and trusted relationships can help leaders avoid navigating major transitions alone.

The key takeaway from this episode is that successful leadership transitions don't happen by accident. Organisations that recognise transition as a strategic moment - and deliberately invest in structure, support, relationships, feedback and development - give their leaders a much stronger chance of succeeding.

  • Why Leadership Feels Harder Than It Used To
    Jul 28 2026
In episode 1 of The Leadership Shift, Caroline Huffam and Corinne Hollidge explore one of the biggest yet least discussed transitions in professional life: the move from being an expert who delivers results to becoming a leader who creates the conditions for others to succeed. Many experienced leaders quietly question themselves. They wonder why leadership feels more demanding than it once did, why they’re working longer hours, carrying greater responsibility, and feeling increasingly isolated despite their success. The reality is that leadership today requires something very different. It’s no longer about having all the answers. It’s about enabling others, leading through uncertainty, influencing across organisations, and building capability rather than dependency. What you'll learn in this episodeWhy leadership feels harder than it used to — and why this doesn't necessarily mean you are less capable or less confident. How leadership has changed from being primarily about expertise and delivering results to influencing, enabling and creating the conditions for others to succeed. Why being an expert doesn't automatically prepare you to be a leader — and the gap that can exist between technical expertise and leadership capability. Why the strengths that made you successful can sometimes become the very things that hold you back as you move into more senior leadership roles. The shift from doing to enabling — and why effective leadership is less about having all the answers and more about helping others succeed. How leaders can unintentionally create dependency by becoming involved in every decision, problem and conversation, rather than building capability within their teams. The personal and emotional cost of leadership, including the pressure of carrying responsibility for others, firefighting and struggling to switch off.Why leadership can sometimes feel isolating, particularly as leaders become more senior and have fewer places to put their own pressures and concerns. How self-doubt and imposter syndrome can emerge during leadership transition — and why feeling stretched doesn't necessarily mean you're failing. The difference between a skills gap and a leadership transition — and the idea that becoming a leader may require a fundamental shift in how you see yourself and how you operate. Why leadership transition is about moving from expert to leader — from doing the work yourself to enabling others to succeed. The importance of leading differently rather than simply carrying more — and recognising when the leadership approach that made you successful in the past may no longer be the approach you need for the future. The key takeawayLeadership isn't necessarily harder because you're less capable. You may simply be experiencing the transition from being an expert to becoming a leader — and that requires a different way of thinking, working and leading. If this conversation resonated with you, we’d love to hear from you.
