• EP 73 | Unprocessed Parenting: Raising Kids on Real Food with Ann Bennett
    Aug 28 2025

On today’s episode of The Healthy Perspective, Dr. Chris sits down with Ann Bennett!

Ann is a homesteading wife, homeschool mom of three, and a passionate advocate for real food. She and Dr. Chris dive into what it looks like to live a lifestyle that goes against the grain.

Ann shares her journey of growing up in the city following a conventionally "health-conscious" lifestyle, avoiding junk food and eating whole grains, but she never truly understood the power of nutrition and whole foods.

Her perspective shifted after discovering The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. This sparked a passion for nourishing herself and her family through real, whole foods. She learned that involving her kids in cooking, growing, and preparing their meals sparked curiosity and deeper conversations around why they eat the way they do.

Ann explains that understanding how food nourishes, or degrades, our bodies has empowered her and her children to make better choices. Mealtimes became a conversation, not a mandate.

She also shares simple, practical tips, like choosing single-ingredient, whole foods, can dramatically transform your and your family’s health.

  • EP 69 | Modern Homesteading Conference with Melissa Norris and Katie Millhorn
    May 17 2023

The road that leads to Modern Homesteading is different for everyone. For some it is the answer to healing from a health crisis or diagnosis, for some, it’s creating food security, for others, it’s sustainability, and for others, it’s answering a calling, something they’re drawn to and for many of us, it’s all of the above.

Co-founders Melissa K. Norris and Katie Millhorn have been homesteading for decades, but even living rurally (where you’d expect to find other homesteaders), they didn’t realize how isolated they were from others actually living this lifestyle. While you might meet other backyard vegetable gardeners or chicken keepers, it’s rare to find someone who is also preserving their food, making as much as they can from scratch and understands the excellent benefits of pasture-raised protein, grows and creates their families herbal medicine to fellowship with let alone learn from.

While homesteading is about sustainability, it’s also about community, supporting one another, and learning from those who have gone before you. That’s why we’re inviting you to the first annual Modern Homesteading Conference, because we know how important it is to be in person, both for learning but also for your heart.

  • EP 68 | Overcoming Brain Injury and Finding Healing In Holistic Gardening with Natalie Forstbauer
    May 2 2023

Today on The Healthy Perspective Podcast, Dr. Boman is joined by Natalie Forstbauer. Natalie is a mom, brain injury survivor, organic/biodynamic gardener and farmer, author, TEDx speaker and the Editor and Chief of Heart and Soil Magazine!

Natalie was born and raised on an organic and biodynamic farm in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada.

She brings a wealth of diverse experience in the farming industry to Heart & Soil Magazine with her entrepreneurial mindset, training in alternative medicine, and experience working with her family's award-winning farm.

On the business side of regenerative farming, Natalie has pretty much done it all: selling into stores, wholesalers, restaurants, and at farmers' markets throughout British Columbia. Working on the front lines of the emerging organic retail industry, she's packed orders in organic warehouses, sold her family farm products into retailers across Canada such as Whole Foods, and discovered true healing through a brain injury while farming.

Natalie is passionate about discovering and sharing what makes a farm successful on all levels. It's not just about the food you grow. It's about connecting with your farm, the people you sell to, how you grow your business, how you take care of yourself as a farmer... how you take care of your soil, and the land you farm, and how you care for and nurture the animals, wildlife, bugs, and ecosystem.

Heart & Soil Magazine is Natalie's response to the demand for quality information and advice with the increasing popularity of regenerative farming around the world.
