    In 1955, Hollywood icon James Dean purchased a sleek silver Porsche 550 Spyder and gave it a fitting nickname: “Little Bastard.” Just nine days later, Dean would be dead after a devastating collision on a California highway. But the story of Little Bastard didn't end with the crash.
    The wrecked Porsche was dismantled, and pieces of it found their way into other racing cars. One racer was killed. Another was involved in a serious crash. The remains of the Porsche were later displayed in safety exhibitions, where more strange incidents supposedly followed.

    In this episode of Stranger Thangs, we follow Little Bastard from James Dean's purchase of the Porsche, through the fatal crash, the bizarre history of its salvaged components, the accidents and legends that followed, and the mysterious disappearance that left the story without an ending. That seemingly simple puzzle became one of the greatest mysteries in internet history. Known as Cicada 3301, the mysterious organization released increasingly complex puzzles involving cryptography, steganography, mathematics, literature, Tor, PGP encryption, hidden messages and obscure references.
    But then something happened that transformed the mystery from an internet puzzle into something much stranger. The clues began leading people into the real world. Cicada 3301 reportedly placed mysterious posters containing QR codes in cities across the globe, including Paris, Warsaw, Sydney, Seoul and the United States.
    Whoever was behind the operation appeared to have the resources and technical ability to coordinate an international recruitment puzzle while remaining completely anonymous.
