• Double Feature: We Don't Talk About That and Even Death
    May 23 2025

This evening's episode, we explore the fragile spaces between the living and the dead—where secrets linger, and love endures in unexpected forms and through the dreams of memory and loss.. First, I’ll read We Don't Talk About That by Ken Carlson (https://kenzofkc.com/), a ghostly family drama. Then I descend into the hauntingly poetic Even Death by Christine Lucas (https://werecat99.wordpress.com/), a lyrical meditation on love and cheating Death.

    Apr 17 2025

Welcome back to Scary Stories Whispered in the Rain! Tonight I will read, Katie Cord's The Pumpkinhead Scissors Will Always Kill You, Part 1.

Katie Cord is an artist and writer. She currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with the greatest husband anyone could have, Timothy W. Long, four rambunctious dogs, one evil cat, and Tim's two kids. In her free time, she likes to binge watch television series while painting or drawing and spend time with Timothy W. Long (even if it is just going to Costco). Her first collection of short stories, He Left Her at the Altar, She Left Him to the Zombies is available on Amazon as well as her coming of age zombie tale, Maxine and her latest anthology: Bizarre Stories for Proper Ladies.

The Pumpkinhead Scissors Will Always Kill You was originally published in BIZARRE STORIES For PROPER LADIES

You can find out all about Katie Cord at https://www.katiecord.com/

After reading Katie's Story, I'll be letting people know what I thought of NightBitch by Rachel Yoder - now please remember my discussion is just the novel, not the film!

  • Not Birds of a Feather
    Mar 28 2025

Welcome back to Scary Stories Whispered in the Rain!

In this episode I introduce Jennifer Brozek's story Not Birds of a Feather. Jennifer Brozek is an award-winning author of original and media tie-in fiction as well as an editor known for her work in horror, science fiction, and dark fantasy. Among her other credits, she is the author of Never Let Me Sleep and The Last Days of Salton Academy, both of which were nominated for the Bram Stoker Award. Her YA tie-in novels, BattleTech: The Nellus Academy Incident and Shadowrun: Auditions, have both won Scribe Awards. Her editing work has earned her nominations for the British Fantasy Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and the Hugo Award. Her religious horror story Not Birds of a Feather explores what happened to the first bird released from the Ark. I chose this story because I love how it presents an unsettling perspective on one of the most well-known stories in Western civilization, transforming it into horror.
