Silence and Storm: The Message of Water

It is no coincidence that I am sharing this podcast with you just before the turn of the year. Because just as water shows us the flow of life - its depths, its storms and its calm - we too are on the threshold of an old year to a new one and perhaps even more. It is a time when we can look back on what was and let go of what no longer serves us. In many of my interviews we have gone in search of inner peace, emotional balance and subtlety - qualities that we not only carry within ourselves, but also look for in the world around us. But just as water can sometimes be gentle and sometimes clear, but also destructive and wild, we too carry these energies within us. We often perceive external circumstances such as stress and conflicts out there in the world or even the weather as a disturbance to our inner balance. But what if these external disturbances are nothing more than a reflection of our own inner unrest? In one of my Ayahuasca ceremonies, the plant - or the being that speaks through it - reminded me of a story that a shaman in Peru told me. He spoke of an earlier role of shamans, who were also called when the weather got out of control. They then worked to calm the unrest in people and the beings around them, because, according to his understanding, this was caused by unconscious actions, the external storms and the wild water. Our inner storms, which sometimes arise from a lack of self-esteem and a lack of harmony, often have an external effect and influence our lives - sometimes subtly, sometimes overwhelmingly. In this episode, I share with you a special excerpt from one of my Ayahuasca ceremonies in which I was reminded of these connections. It was created shortly after a ceremony when I was reflecting with the plant and is largely unedited in terms of content. The plant encourages us to see water not only as a resource, but also as a mirror. It invites us to think about our own inner balance and what messages the water - and the life in it - can give us."
