Games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild, The Witcher, and Shadow of Mordor have set the standard of an open-world videogame experience that is impossible to live up to from an indie developer or small game development team. Often times expectations are set higher then manageable for small teams developing games like No Man's Sky, selling a full-on, next-gen, revolutionary experience, programmed by ONLY 10 PEOPLE!!! Even GTA V has issues keeping up with such promises, having tons of man power to produce such games. Not every game needs to be an open world, and often times smaller games offer better and more intimate experience.
