HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME ETC.!

Yes! Today marks the 2nd birthday of the LWICFD! Podcast and to help celebrate this very special anniversary for me (see EP.#31), I am extremely honoured to have my dear friend Peter Hughes! 🥳

I first met Peter back in 2005 (pretty much to the day this pod drops 😳!) when I got asked to do the sound and Tour Manage the band Peter was playing bass and singing beautiful harmonies in…The Mountain Goats who were blowing up in Australia and globally with songs such as “This Year”, “No Children” and “Dance Music”.

For 20+ yrs Peter toured with the 🏔️ 🐐 and I was lucky enough to tour Aus&NZ with them on 4 occasions. Peter even came to stay with my wife and I at our house at the conclusion of the 2006/2007 tour for a week (with another rad dude who was on that tour - John Vanderslice) so we have a lot of good history and I really enjoyed catching up with him and hear his journey from growing up in California to now, especially because…

…late last year, Peter “retired” from the MGs - but he didn’t go and drink cocktails on the beach while enjoying retirement. Instead he jumped on a plane and came back to Australia to record a brand new solo record called “Half-Staff Blues” which comes out on 5TH SEPT so I strongly recommend you head on over to Peter’s bandcamp and get a copy (link below).

On this episode of the LWICFD! Podcast we have Tour Manager to pretty much every band that ever existed, Benn Newby 🥳

For nearly 20 years, Benn has tour managed many amazing Australian & International bands & artists. I won’t name them all here because it would take 10,000 years 😅 but the list includes bands such as Karnivool, Birds of Tokyo, John Butler, Genesis Owusu, Paramore & Death Cab for Cutie to name just a tiny fraction of acts that Benn has toured with in venues from tiny clubs to massive stadiums & everything in between, travelling all around our beautiful country & the globe (including some crazy times to Russia & India, which we hear about during the chat.)

Benn has also been the Artist Relations manager @ Warner Music for a few years, but his most important job out of all of this cool stuff is that of a loving husband and father - I don’t know how he does it all but mad respect to Benn & his family & we have a great catch up about how he got into it & some of his adventures along the way. 💥🙌🏼
