  • EP04. What If Freezer Prep Didn’t Need a Prep Day?
    Sep 14 2026

You don’t need to spend an entire day cooking thirty freezer meals to start building a useful freezer.

In Episode 4, I talk about a much simpler approach: attach freezer prep to cooking you’re already doing.

Making chicken for dinner? Cook a little extra and freeze some in useful portions. Making ground beef, pulled pork, soup, a casserole, or a sauce? The same idea applies.

Over time, those extra portions start adding up—and suddenly you have proteins, sides, sauces, and meals waiting for the days when you don’t have the time or energy to start dinner from scratch.

Freezer prep doesn’t have to become another project on your to-do list. Start small, use the food you already cook, and build from there.

  • Just Because It Fits Doesn’t Mean You Need That Much
    Aug 31 2026

A one-cup freezer tray doesn’t mean you need one cup of everything.

In Episode 3, I talk about one of the lessons I learned while building my own freezer system: the container measures what fits, but it doesn’t decide how much you actually need.

Gravy taught me that lesson pretty quickly. A portion that looked perfectly reasonable in the freezer turned out to be far more than I wanted once it was on the plate.

We’ll look at why different foods need different portion sizes, how smaller portions can give you more flexibility, and why experimenting with what works for you is part of building a freezer system you’ll actually use.

The goal isn’t to fill every container to the top. It’s to freeze useful amounts that make future meals easier.

  • What If Freezing the Whole Meal Is the Problem?
    Aug 24 2026

A freezer full of complete meals can still leave you saying, “I don’t want any of that.”

In Episode 2, I explain one of the biggest ideas behind Freezer Meal Shortcuts: instead of freezing only complete meals, freeze useful building blocks too.

Cooked chicken, ground beef, mashed potatoes, rice, vegetables, sauces, and gravy can become different meals depending on what sounds good that day.

You don’t have to choose one method or the other. Eat a family meal fresh and freeze the leftovers in useful portions. Or cook extra protein and save some plain before turning the rest into a recipe.

The goal is to make your freezer feel less like a collection of leftovers and more like an ingredient shelf where much of the cooking is already done.

  • What If the Easy Meal Was Food You Actually Like?
    Aug 18 2026

I didn’t set out to become a meal-prep person. I just wanted quick lunches and dinners that I actually wanted to eat.

In Episode 1, I introduce the basic idea behind Freezer Meal Shortcuts: cook food you already enjoy, portion it in useful amounts, freeze it, and make future meals easier.

Sometimes that means freezing a complete meal. Other times it means freezing individual components—like cooked chicken, ground beef, rice, vegetables, sauces, or gravy—so you can mix and match them later.

This isn’t about spending an entire weekend making dozens of freezer meals. It’s about using the cooking you’re already doing to make life a little easier later.
