Spiking the punch for an office party was an idea that Harold knew would be appreciated by fellow clerks at a farewell party for a fellow officer on base. He helped gather the ingredients needed for a successful event.

Elwin spent many summers helping his electrician dad on jobs, but felt he needed some experience in other areas to make an informed decision for his career path. He worked as a combine driver, a wheat truck driver, wheat sampler and even a full-service station clerk.
