    Re-Run: A Personal Reflection on Long-Term Care

Recently, I lost my beloved Aunt Katie to dementia, following the earlier passing of her husband from Parkinson's disease. Their journey reminded me of the profound importance of quality long-term care and the blessing of having both loving family and the financial means to access it. Not every American family has these advantages.

This deeply personal experience brings me back to an essential conversation I had with Samantha Rapuk, Executive Director of Lutheran SeniorLife. In this episode, Samantha breaks down the long-term care continuum, discusses the mounting challenges facing non-profit institutions in this space, and shares insights about the growing crisis of diminishing resources for elder care.

As families become more geographically scattered and financial pressures mount, Samantha's perspective on keeping residents at the center of everything we do becomes even more crucial. She speaks to the heart of what it means to care for our most vulnerable—our elderly and their families—during some of life's most challenging moments.

This re-run is dedicated to Aunt Katie, to all the caregivers who show extraordinary love and dedication, and to the urgent need for better funding and support for long-term care in America.

Tune in to understand why this conversation matters more than ever.
