Über diesen Titel
A weapon is forged from flesh and magic.
Tattooed with magical runes to enhance his skills and suppress his emotions, Lad is raised from birth to be the most lethal assassin the world has ever known. He is the pinnacle of his master’s magical and martial arts, a true weapon of flesh, all according to plan. Until the plan goes awry....
The Master is gone, and the weapon is free. And in a dangerous world, a weapon does what a weapon is made to do. Or does he?
Alone for the first time, Lad’s future is now in his own hands. He has a destiny, but knows not what it is. Undeterred, he heads out into the world, and the weapon begins to become a person....
But a person is not what the Grandfather of Assassins has invested a fortune and nearly two decades to achieve. When his weapon does not arrive as promised, the Grandfather sets loose his hunters.
The only problem? No one thought a weapon of flesh would fall in love.
Now only death will release Lad from his servitude and save the woman he loves—the Grandfather’s death…or his own.

I came across this series while looking for something similar to Kel Kades "Kings Dark Tidings" which is on of my favorite book series of all time. For those who know Kings Dark Tidings: While both protagonists seem very alike in the beginning and have a similar starting points the stories and the way the protagonists develope are very different.
And that's where i end the comparison.
The writing is not groundbreaking but good enough to suck you into the story and it didn't stand out in a negativ way.
While there were moments which should have been fleshed out a little more in my opinion, the overall pace of the story is good and doesn't drag at any point. Trying to give an example for lacking moments without getting into too much spoilers: The way the protagonist decides to go about his "final" confrontation wasn't very convincing and executed a little clumsily. There is also a mystic to the powers of the main antagonist which i was hoping would have been explained in more detail.
But while i do have gripes with some decisions of the author, i still very much enjoyed my time with the audio book.
What i do believe this story does very well is keeping the tension high in the second half of the narrative. You can tell from the very beginning that the author is not afraid to go into grisely details and none of the main characters, apart from maybe the protagonist, feel "save" at any point in the story.
I do especially appreciate the fact, this book can stand on it's own two feet with a satisfying conclusion even if it's the first book in a longer series. If you're looking for a new story but don't want to commit to a series where you have to listen to multiple titles to get answers, this first book is a good start.
And while i do enjoy the somewhat resolved ending of the book, i do believe there is enough left over to continue on and i am looking forward to listening to Book 2.
My conclusion: If you enjoy titles like Kel Kades "Kings Dark Tidings"-series, "The name of the wind"-series by Patrick Rothfuss or Brent Weeks "Night Angel"-series, you should give this one a shot. And the voice acting is very well done.
