True heroes will do anything to protect the women they love....
As the newest recruit at Search and Protect, Raul has a lot to prove. Luckily, he's got the best friend and partner a man could ask for: a highly trained, fiercely loyal German Shepherd named Taz. Together, Raul and Taz make an unbeatable team. But their first mission in Hawaii really puts them to the test when an international kidnapping ring sets its sights on the bravest woman Raul's ever met....
Mali knows her latest job has put one hell of a target on her back. And on this small island paradise, there's nowhere to hide. With a service dog like Taz, Mali feels safe. Sharing close quarters with a smoldering muscle-for-hire like Raul, she feels something else - an unexpected wave of desire. Raul feels it too. But when the kidnappers make their move, he's got to turn that slow-burning passion into hard-hitting action - and save the life of the woman he loves.

An amazing man-dog partnership in action
Raul and his GSD Taz have arrived on the Hawaiian Islands and at their new job, the private „Search and Protect“ firm. Before they can settle in, his best friend and former military mate's little sister calls in distress. So Raul&Taz rush off to save Mali from kidnappers and instantly get entangled into Mali's line of work. With poking into human trafficking on the islands of paradise Mali and her coworkers have hit a hornet nest. Although she and Raul feel that there is an instant pull of attaction between them, the quickly escalating situation pushes all passion to the sideline.
I must admit, I had been a bit caucious with the setting changing from Hope's Crossing Kennels to exotic Hawaii. But I also had liked Raul from the previous story very much that I really wanted to know his story. Again Piper J. Drake has written a phantastic story with Raul&Taz making an amazing team together. The descriptions of the landscapes and the detailed planning and carrying out of this highly dangerous operation grabed me, pulling me along with all the action. The one thing I struggled with a bit were Mali' s issues with her older sister.
Daniel Thomas May and Caroline Slaughter have done a great job reading this challanging storyline and bringing Raul&Mali „alive“. I could easily connect (and envy when thinking of my dog and my own connection) with Raul and the secret hero of the story, eager, highly empathic and perfetly trained Taz. I also loved how Mali's character development progressed. With her analytic thinking and strong will she complemented calm and considerate Raul perfectly. Just Mr.May and Mrs.Slaughter pronouncing Mali's name differently threw me each time a bit though.
