Eileen is sick of being 79.
Leena's tired of life in her twenties.
Maybe it's time they swapped places...

When overachiever Leena Cotton is ordered to take a two-month sabbatical after blowing a big presentation at work, she escapes to her grandmother Eileen's house for some overdue rest. Eileen is newly single and about to turn eighty. She'd like a second chance at love, but her tiny Yorkshire village doesn't offer many eligible gentlemen.

Once Leena learns of Eileen's romantic predicament, she proposes a solution: a two-month swap. Eileen can live in London and look for love. Meanwhile Leena will look after everything in rural Yorkshire. But with gossiping neighbours and difficult family dynamics to navigate up north, and trendy London flatmates and online dating to contend with in the city, stepping into one another's shoes proves more difficult than either of them expected.

Leena learns that a long-distance relationship isn't as romantic as she hoped it would be, and then there is the annoyingly perfect - and distractingly handsome - school teacher, who keeps showing up to outdo her efforts to impress the local villagers. Back in London, Eileen is a huge hit with her new neighbours, but is her perfect match nearer home than she first thought?

Besides the story, I really did enjoy the Eileen’s voice the most. I could always picture her. Worthwhile listening to this book.

Heartwarming

Love the books from Beth O‘Leary so far. And that the main character have different voices each time makes it so much more authentic. The story is always relatable and even for a foreigner like me easy to understand and follow

Second book I absolutely loved

I really do not share some listeners’ opinion that one of the readers (Eileen‘s voice) cannot be borne. On the contrary, she sounds so authentic and extraordinary in her way of presenting Eileen‘s perspective that I preferred her to Leena‘s presentation (, even though there was really absolutely nothing wrong with that one either).

The story - here I agree with many others - is quite predictable. Still, many parts are cleverly depicted and the idea of the switch is original enough. After all, it is a romantic comedy;)
I love O‘Leary‘s way of creating atmosphere, her very lovable characters and the little thoughts of wisdom that make her novels so recommendable. She deserves to be mentioned when I am asked about my favourite authors. I think, after ‚the flatshare’ this is my second favourite O‘Leary-book. The depiction of grief is very relatable and an important part of the story without making it too sad. That makes it even more amazing. I loved this audio book!

Predictable but very touching and beautifully Witten

The person reading the older persons also made me cringe (as someone else pointed out before me). Loved the other one, though, so I managed to finish listening to the book. No huge surprises in the plot, but sometimes that is exactly what you need.

Lovely story, one terrible speaker
