I was already excited to soon start my own research with bats, but this book has fired me up for bats worldwide. The reading was beautiful and I was literally on the edge of my seat during many stories in which Merlin Tuttle almost died for his passionate field research, photography, and conservation efforts. I, born in the 90s had beautiful pictures of bats in National Geographic to look at growing up, peaking only curiosity and interest rather than fear. Only now do I realize I can attribute that to a select but growing group, who have bravely and kindly combated misinformation around them. This book is as informative about the importance and neighborliness of many bat species as it is inspirational to current and future scientists and hobbyists. Thank you
