The Queen's Poisoner has a decent story and I enjoyed the audiobook, however in my opinion nothing much happens in the first half. I think only after 4 to 5 hours of listening you're past the blurb of the book.
Also you might want to know before you start the book, that "youngest son" means that the main character is in fact 8 years old and stays 8, no time lapses, since I had different expectations.
Overall the world building is good, I liked the characters and the "magic system" sounds interesting so far. I expect to learn more about it in the future. It has a couple of nice twist and the end is a good set-up for the next book, which I'm going to start on soon.
