Über diesen Titel

The science of personality theory has advanced dramatically in recent years clearing the way for this useful and edifying speculation about the inner workings of horrific serial killers. Applying personality theory to more than a dozen of the most notorious serial killers in modern history, the mystery surrounding their crimes begins to unravel. What drives them to commit horrific crimes? How does sexual desire fit into their motivation? Why do some stop killing while others escalate? What are the different types of serial killers based on personality theory?

Contains mature themes.

While the book has some merits, it ultimately falls short in several crucial areas. First and foremost, psychopathy possesses a significant genetic component that numerous researchers recognize. Many individuals endure adverse childhood experiences—witnessing or experiencing emotional, physical, or sexual abuse—yet they do not develop psychopathy, but become very empathetic individuals instead. Conversely, some psychopaths originate from supportive and loving families, only to develop conduct disorders and later evolve into full-fledged psychopaths.

Moreover, the book's examination of serial killers is inadequate. Their modus operandi (MO) is not consistently addressed, which is a glaring oversight. It is imperative to provide not just a psychological profile of serial killers but also a detailed account of their MO.

Additionally, the final chapter conflates the concepts of setting strong boundaries and listening to one's intuition. Both elements are vital for personal safety and self-protection. A striking example of this is the female contestant from the Dating Game, who wisely trusted her intuition and refused a date with Rodney Alcala. Listening to and validating one's intuition, inner voice, or gut feeling is critical; these instincts often serve as warnings of potential danger.

Furthermore, it must be emphasized that psychopathy is not merely a theoretical construct; it is a serious personality disorder. Psychopaths are not only dangerous but frequently violent individuals who lack empathy, shame, and remorse. They often mask their true nature behind a façade of normalcy, making them deeply disturbed individuals who inflict harm on others and jeopardize societal well-being. Humanity must prioritize the development of effective methods for diagnosing psychopathy, while simultaneously implementing stronger protections for vulnerable populations.
