    Inhaltsangabe

I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the university at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

So begins the tale of Kvothe - currently known as Kote, the unassuming innkeeper - from his childhood in a troupe of travelling players, through his years spent as a near feral orphan in a crime riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic.

In these pages you will come to know Kvothe the notorious magician, the accomplished thief, the masterful musician, the dragon-slayer, the legend hunter, the lover, the thief and the infamous assassin.

The Name of the Wind is fantasy at its very best.

    Read by Rupert Degas.

    Audio: aac, 22050 Hz, stereo, 62 kb/s - Normal wäre: 44100 Hz, stereo, 125 kb/s

Great story without a question, but ...

The speaker does a really bad job in characterizing the characters and exaggerates it with his interpretation he voices beyond the unrecognizability of the mood of the book. Hes having a great voice, but it often feels like he doesn't really know the book.

    Rather boring

After raving reviews on some social media I was expecting a very special new fantasy world, but was sorely disappointed.
The world building wasn't anything that hasn't been done in various classics like LOTR etc.
The hero, although supposedly incredibly clever, was neither interesting nor likeable. Most relevant characters were male, and the female characters lacked definition.
The whole story went on and on without getting more exciting, and the intervowen love story didn't manage to make the whole thing more interesting. The main love interest was supposed to be mysterious and amazingly beautiful, but just managed to seem annoying.
The reader although excellent at accents, tended to be sloppy with his endings, which was almost unbearable.
All in all not a very enjoyable listening experience. I kept hoping it would be getting better, but gave up at the third part.

    Großartig

The Name of the Wind ist eins der besten Fantasybücher der letzen 20 Jahre.
B. beim Song of Ice and Fire deutlich besser.
Sehr angenehm ist, dass die Kapitel nicht sooo lang sind, was bei mir mit dem Einschlaftimer bis Kapitelende gut passte.
Genug geschrieben - Day 2 wartet.

Best fantasy book of all times.

Unchallenged fantasy book. I love Rothfusses eye for the little details and absolute perfection. This has been my second read and the book still amazes me!

Not as good, as I had hoped

Rupert Degas' outstanding and marvelous performance aside, I found the story lackluster and mediocre at best.

Love the performance of the narrator

the narrator manages to perfectly breathe life into an already lively and vibrant story. The book quickly became one of my favourites and I do not regret buying it again as an audiobook.

I have some minor squabbles with the pronunciation of some of the names of made-up places and character (petty, I know) but I always heard it as Êlodin, not Elodîn. Kêtan not Ketân. etc.
And while the Irish (I think) accent fits perfectly for Abenthy, I will never understand the decision to give the chaeldish, once a people of nomads, with a dark complexion ... a *Scottish* accent. And very seldom, I find that the narrator misses the true intention of the authors words by a tiny margin.

Nonetheless still a wonderful performance, aided largely by the plethora of different voices the narrator deals out to the books characters.

best book I ever read and heard

I ducking love Rothfuss' choice of words, how he paints the whole story in your head and how immersive his world is, even when it is a story within a story within a story. The first problems Kvothe encounters in Tarbean left me crying at the train station.

The voice performance is one to make this book and author proud, I completely forgot that it is just one person being all the persons I heard talking and living through the story.

If there's just a slight spark in you for fantasy, this book simply has to join your library

Great story. A piece of art.

Amazing use of words and language.
The story draws you in, swallows you and then opens your eyes to see a world beypnd immagination.

Epic fantasy, but could be narrated better

I have read the book already some years ago, and thought that the beautiful writing style and narrated story in the story would make for a great listening experience.
I am a bit disappointed by the speaker though. He narrates it in such a way different to my imagination, but also does the voices so... wrong sometimes. Example, he makes someone sound angry and then says "he laughed" without even implying any laughter/positive emotion in the voice he just acted out.
It shouldn't bother me that much, but it does.

Still a great story, so I will finish it anyways.
