This is a story from the Andersen's Fairy Tales collection.
The world of Hans Christian Andersen is seen through the eyes of children. There is the everyday wonder of an ugly duckling being transformed into a swan; the puffed-up Emperor being fooled by his own importance; the tender tragedy of a little match girl; the upright honesty of John rewarded by his traveling companion. By bringing true feelings to these stories, Andersen's tales have become part of universal folklore.

In Danish master Hans Christian Andersen’s heart-rending but ultimately optimistic folk tale set on a freezing New Year’s Eve night, the titular girl, afraid her father will chastise her for not selling enough matches, finds herself staving off the unrelenting cold while tucked away in a nook, with her only hope coming in the form of visions of her beloved grandmother.
Erica Johns brings this classic vividly to life with her soulful, emotive portrayal of a young girl’s desperate wish to transcend her unfortunate circumstances in this audiobook that will immediately appeal to the preschool crowd.
