This book is one of the longer ones, and I found it enjoyable from beginning to end, spanning a time period of over one hundred years. It leads you back and forth, changing perspectives and time periods, never losing its suspense. A beautifully told (and read) family saga!

Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden is an atmospheric novel that weaves together generations of family secrets, fairy tales, and a mysterious garden in Cornwall. The story is told through multiple timelines, which at times creates a rich and layered narrative, but can also feel slow and overly complex.

The strength of the novel lies in its setting and mood—Morton is excellent at crafting vivid scenes and immersing the reader in different time periods. The idea of a lost child, a hidden identity, and the search for truth is compelling and initially quite engaging.

However, the pacing is uneven, especially in the middle and towards the end. Some parts feel repetitive or drawn out, and I found myself losing interest as the story seemed to circle around the same themes without much momentum. While the characters have emotional depth, their development is sometimes hindered by the constant shifts in perspective and timeline.

Overall, The Forgotten Garden is a beautifully written book with a haunting atmosphere, but it didn’t fully hold my attention throughout. Readers who enjoy slow-burn historical fiction and intricate family sagas might love it, but for me, it was a mixed experience.

Great story, one of the sort you want to go on forever. It is mysterious with surprising twists. I enjoyed the wonderful fairy tales as much as the story itself.

Der Roman der australischen Autorin ist die wunderbare und geheimnisvolle Geschichte einer jungen Frau, die nach England reist, um ein Familiengeheimnis zu lüften und ihr eigenes Leben zu meistern.
Sehr schön gelesen, allerdings ziemlich lang, sodass man schon am Ball bleiben muss, um bei den verschiedenen Zeitebenen und Perspektiven nicht den Faden zu verlieren. Aber die spannende Story lässt einen nicht mehr los und am Ende bedauert man es, sich von den Figuren verabschieden zu müssen.

Just loved it! Once you start reading / listening you cannot stop. It is very different from other fiction i read but in an exiting way !
