As always, auto-biography should be taken with a grain of salt, but for people who are interested in the work of Government-staff this book absolutely is worth a try.

Roughly summarised: Childhood, Father's alcoholism, Migration to the US, journalist in Bosnia, Problem from hell, foreign policy advisor, UN Ambassador.

the author is – obviously – no professional actor, but she still delivers a solid performance.

Samantha Power's writing style is impeccable as always. A wonderful account of how to become UN ambassador and great insights into the practices of US politics and diplomacy!
The only minus in story are the constant self-righteous remarks about Russia and corrupt governments, while not shining enough light on US failings.

She, sticks to the title of the book. A must read for every idealist, especiallt those who struggle with theirs.

Samantha Powers or Sam as she calls herself tries to bring about the story how she found her idealism and how she struggled to keep it while in office. To paint this picture one might lose the facetted nature of the world. Her American exceptionalistic way of writing enraged me once or twice. Calling herself a multilateralist while picturing other like minded countries often in the sense of needing nudging to act. Displaying issues as black and white rather than as grey as they often are.

All those aspects lead me to the conclusion: A must-read for everybody who struggles with idealism and a non-read for everybody who loves facetted display of world affairs.
