The Empress of the Eight Worlds has been assassinated during the Holiday of Life festivities on the planet Salutai. This is an old book, Saberhagen grew a lot better over the years. But nonetheless it shows a web of lies, greed and Berserkers. Some SF elements feel outdated, but the story saves that from becoming important.

I have known Fred from a few mails we exchanged. Thank you for giving us the Berserkers.
