This is the most important book that I have listened to in my entire life so far. It teaches us, that the US has forgotten the values of the Founding Fathers. Today, these values are still present in Chinese culture. This doesn't mean that today's achievements are not valuable. Everybody has been talking about the decline of America and the rise of China, more, the rise of authoritarianism in the world, which might turn into dictatorship. However, if America combines these "Chinese values" with the freedom and "Western values", America might remain number one for a little longer. And let's hope China will adopt "Western values" besides "Chinese values" too and we will globally have a formidable mixture with peace and prosperity and a better chance of keeping us alive on this planet for a long long time, hopefully.

I enjoyed listening to this book very much. It brought up a lot of subjects which has never been revealed before. Being born and brought up in Asia in a bi-national family with a Chinese mother, I personally agree with Amy's description of the general "Chinese" mother.... as I have experienced her myself.

I have been meaning to listen to this for ages and I am so glad I did. It is thought provoking and entertaining and very emotional all at once. I loved it.

Ich habe vor diesem Hörbuch World On Fire gelesen, das durchaus qualitätvoll, unterhaltend und anregend war. Aber auch ein ganz anderes Thema. Das Standardwerk zur Erziehung in der Leistungsgesellschaft ist eine selbstbeweihräuchernde Lobrede auf die eigene Familie. Von wegen Selbstkritisch. Die Verallgemeinerung der kruden Lebensart der Chua zum Prinzip "Tiger Mother" ist meines Erachtens unethisch und gefährlich.
