I eagerly awaited the next chapter in Cyrus‘ life und was not disappointed at all! Loved it from page 1!

Exceeds expectations!

This book reveals more on Evie´s experiences as a child. It also hints at a possible ring of smugglers of refugees. It is a shame, though, that this part of the story is never developed any further but ends in the deaths of several of the small-time members of this smuggling band.
I also find that the behavior of the protagonists borders on the improbable at some points, so on the whole the book is not as convincing as some other books by Robotham.
My compliments to Joe Jameson for the lovely read.

Not the best Robotham

Riveting, well thought out and perfect in every way. No loose ends, no unanswered questions (making me anxious this might be the end).

But the speaker… Well, he does his very best and he does try to mimic different people but he makes them sound like drunkards with two brain cells instead. I do appreciate the effort, though.

Masterclass writing and story

Absolutely amazing book, great characters, great crime story, gripping, tense, emotional, touching… Exceeds any expectations I had before I read it. I already loved book 1 to 3, but this instalment tops everything. Michael Robotham touches a very hot iron in our days without polarising too much or imposing his opinion upon the reader. The story is gripping and sad at the same time, very dark underneath and then again heart-warming and touching. This book will stay in my mind for a while. It can be read without the first 3 books, but I would not recommend this, the 4 books round up the entire Evy story and one would deprive oneself from a great story if this part was singled out. An absolut masterpiece is also the presentation by Joe Jameson, he is Sirius, he is Evy and he is any other character in story in the most believable way. I highly recommend this book.

The story is compelling from the beginning and very read. The characters are credible and the protagonists ever more likeable.

Disturbing protagonist

Come to Germany and see what happened here since 2015 with my country. All is going to hell in a handbasket. And especially for woman in a very bad way! I do not need sermons over politics from one of my favourite authors. A part from this, I have enough from Evy. Cyrus is an interesting character, and I wanted to know more of him. But it's all about Evy, all the time. And now this naive refugee stories on top. No Robotham for me anymore. Sadly.
