I think I don't need to write about the book. I always liked the Thrawn-Trilogy a lot, so I was a bit doubtful if an audiobook might spoil the stories for me.
But, what I hadn't really imagined from the short audio sample I listened to before buying " Heir to the Empire": Marc Thompson is a genius! He got every single person right, I think, and he is even able to read a Wookie (namely Ralrra).
I'm very happy with these 3 audiobook!

stunning narrator

Zahn knows how to write a story gripping and entertaining. Marc Thompson is the ideal reader that knows the caracters well and does great impersonation of the protagonists that lets you think you hear the protagonists speaking. Just great!

Good story well told and animated

After having read the trilogy long time ago, I was really excited to jump back into the story and the characters. Particularly the narrator makes the overall experience absolutely outstanding. Definitive recommendation !

Great Star Wars Classic, Even After all These years

Der Sprecher verleiht allen Charakteren eine individuelle Stimme, die Sounduntermalung ist immer passend. Die Handlung bleibt auf hohem Niveau und sollte unbedingt verfilmt werden. Ich freue mich schon auf dem letzten Teil....

Exactly what I expected and wanted. This trilogy is to me still one of the best of the EU. And although this part takes some build-up time, I love each of the arcs and the steadily increase of suspense and action.

The second book starts where the first ended. Its pacing is great and it never gets boring. The production is absolutely great; the narrator does a fantastic job and audio effects as well as music provide the perfect Star Wars feeling.

Als ich diese Buchreihe als Teenager das erste Mal las, war ich begeistert. Bis heute hat sich daran nichts geändert. Zahn hat die Idee von Star Wars aufgegriffen und einfach wundervolll weitergesponnen und schenkt einigen der vielen Ungereimtheiten der Filme einen Sinn.

As is customary with many books in the middle of their respective trilogies, Dark Force Rising takes on a much slower pace, slowing the main story down and focusing on the characters. That’s what I love about this novel, its particular focus on characterization. All the characters are written faithfully, and their character arcs flow naturally from HTTH into this novel; a standout character is Mara Jade. I loved Leia’s subplot, the political intrigue on Coruscant, and seeing Han and Corellia’s past explored organically through Garm Bel Iblis was also great.

DFR also has a very focused story. As early as chapter 3, we know that the main plot will revolve around retrieving the katana fleet, a set of 200 rendili stardrive dreadnoughts deployed by the Galactic Republic during its final decades of existence. Not to mention the intricate weaving of all the subplots into the main one, quite compelling.

An improvement from HTTH was the sound effects. Marc Thompson’s performance is brilliant, and the mix between the background sound effects and voice narration was ideal, albeit the effects being slightly overused throughout the book.

While not much happened plot-wise, DFR is excellent connective tissue. In a sense, it’s best to take the Thrawn trilogy as a whole story, and not worry too much about the individual strengths and weaknesses of each book.

Perfect story, perfect narrator, what more do you want?! If you like Star Wars this is a must. Seriously, stop reading and get it now!

Why are you still reading this? Thrawn is the perfect nemesis after Vader and Palpatine. Now go and buy this trilogy.

Ideal sequel trilogy

Its a nice story and in my opinion way better than the new movie !
If the new movie was a disappointment for you, you should check out this trilogy (15h per book 45 total and after downloading you can listen to it without connection on a flight or something like that) but just the best thing about it are the voice acting and the sound effects (yup sound effects like blasterfire in an audiobook) , but I have to say its sad to know that disney made all that non canon (so it did not happen in Star Wars 7) .

If you like the original Star Wars you should buy this !
