I have heard several of the "mysteries" in the Gideon Oliver series and the plot is very repetitive. The stories are very dated, having been written in the '80s, and are full of typically American prejudices and preconceptions - sometimes beyond the limit of political correctness. The reader's pronunciation of foreign languages is pretty frightful but in this case his French pronunciation is really catastrophic, irrelevant of whether it concerns names, place names, car brands (!), food, well, anything! Diphthongs are massacred if not completely ignored. Really made me cringe.
