Sink 'Em All was originally published in 1951 by Vice Admiral Charles A. Lockwood, the US Navy commander of the Pacific submarine fleet during World War II.

Lockwood, in his leadership role, knew the skippers and crews of the submarines and retells their wartime successes and tragedies with an intimacy and realism often missing in second-hand accounts. Lockwood also recounts his efforts to improve the provisions and after-patrol accommodations of the submariners and of his on-going struggle to improve the effectiveness of torpedoes and other tools vital to the war effort.

Das Buch mach einen authentischen Eindruck, zumal es von jemanden geschrieben wurde, der selbst das Kommando hatte. Man sollte sich allerdings schon sehr für dieses eher spezielle Themen und alle Details interessieren, denn teilweise hat es etwas vom Vorlesenlassen einer Excel-Tabelle wenn die monatlichen Abschüsse alle im einzelnen aufgezählt werden. Natürlich ist Pathos dabei, allerdings nur in geringem Umfang, mich hat es jedenfalls nicht gestört.
Mir hat es gefallen, und ich glaube jetzt weiß ich ersteinmal alles, was es zu diesem Thema zu wissen gibt.

The author was closely woven into this part of the war and gives a detailed, personal and well-structured report 6 years after its end.

The narrator does a professional job, though with a slightly war-dramatic voice.
