It's every novelist's greatest fear: pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into writing hundreds of pages only to realize that their story has no sense of urgency, no internal logic, and so is a page-one rewrite. The prevailing wisdom in the writing community is that there are just two ways around this problem: pantsing (winging it) and plotting (focusing on the external plot).

Save the cat not necessary
Obsession over save the cat is unnecessary. There are so many goddamn movies that don’t chase it and are phenomenal movies. I think it’s all about story, and not all about a save the cat sheet to tell that story. I once hear him say that screenplays like that of tarantinos or others that don’t follow the rules are very fun to read..no shit, a movie doesn’t need save the cat to be good..and they wouldn’t be the same if they did chase that. I’m not saying save the cat is always dumb shit, but it’s not what you need to tell a good story. I also found it funny how he goes to say that only beginners think they want to do something new and unique and sort of made fun of them for thinking that way instead of going after save the cat structure to actually be able to sell their script. Of course a movie needs structure, but chasing around a theme, logline and a basic 3 act structure is not necessary to start writing your script. Overrated.
