Die Stimme des Sprechers war größtenteils emotionslos und die Spannung der Geschichte litt darunter.

Was wäre wenn die Russen einen dritten Weltkrieg starten würden. Tolle Beschreibung der damaligen Technik und deren Einsatz.

Einfach der beste Thriller, der in den letzten Jahres des kalten Krieges spielt. Sehr glaubwürdige und realistische Darstellung eines konventionellen Krieges zwischen der NATO und des Warschauer Pakts.

Die Handlung schliesst von Norwegen bis Deutschland den ganzen geographischen Raum des Konfliktes ein. Trotz der vielen Handlungsstränge und die unzähligen Beschreibungen der Kämpfe in der Luft, unter/über dem Wasser und in Westdeutschland, verliert man nicht den Überblick.

Für mich ist dies das Meisterwerk von Tom Clancy. Sehr schade, dass dieser vor kurzem mit 66 Jahren viel zu früh verstorben ist.

Bester Cold-War Thriller

Auch wenn das Buch bereits im kalten Krieg verfasst wurde, so ist die Handlung als solche doch immer noch topaktuell.
Fachlich ist das Buch sehr interessant, auch wenn mittlerweile sicherlich das eine oder andere System nicht mehr mit von der Partie ist und sich die Kriegsführung heutzutage nicht mehr an der großen Panzerschlacht in der norddeutschen Tiefebene orientiert.
Die unterschiedlichen Handlungsstränge, die komplett unabhängig voneinander agieren vermitteln einen guten Überblick über eine komplexe Gesamtlage und ihre Entwicklung, ohne allerdings zu viel vorwegzunehmen.

Absolut weiter zu empfehlen.

It's certainly an epic feat to bring together so much technological detail and narratives without losing those of us with a laypersons knowledge of war, war machines and combat strategy. Arguably this is where this book isost successful.

Certainly you can poke holes in this book if you treat it as a strategy paper on a what could have happened in the cold war, but that would be missing the point.

What the authors do best here is giving the build up, expectations and outcomes of smaller battles a sense of realism. Its mind bending the amount of work required to deliver on a broad network elements needed to pain a view of the system of war.

While some of the characters are of the authors time, its nevertheless refreshing to meet no super human warriors or pure of heart heros. A no point are you really pulled into deep patriotic rehtoric or idealism, it's far more honest and all the better for it.

As a piece of fiction, of this size and complexity it is masterful, riveting and feels very real and viseral.

The audio performance is likewise excellent and very fitting for the title.

An epic piece of work from all concerned.
