A modern fairytale that's both painfully sad and hilariously funny. What made this Audible version so special for me is the wonderful way the voice artist conveys every nuance and character, and it was great hearing the author herself speak so eloquently and entertainingly about her writing.

it's an amazingly written novel with very rich characters. A female chemist trying to overcome 60s misogyny. The interview with the author at the end is a great idea to gain insights into the story development. well done 👍

This story will resonate with women who have experienced discrimination, unfairness, belittling, even abuse (ie. all of us). Of course it was even worse in the 1950s when women were only supposed to be housewives and mothers and men had all the power. This story of Elizabeth Zott who wants to be a chemist is an enlightening, infuriating but fun read of her life and how she deals with life’s unfairnesses and stands her ground.
I enjoyed the book very much, found it informative and a page-turner, but not very realistic. Like a modern day fairytale. No matter how feminist Elizabeth Zott might have been, there was too much of the 2020s politically correct thinking behind her words to be believable for the 50s.
Anyway, that niggle didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book and the message of empowerment. I also loved the interview at the end.

I enjoyed the book a lot and appreciated the twists and turns. i especially enjoyed the chemistry details. some characters were not as plausible as they could have been but overall it was great. loved 6:30!

The interview in the end with the author was from my point of view quite superfluous. Especially as the interviewer exclaims "How interesting!" after each of the author's answers. Unnecessairy.

Out-of the box female scientist shows everyone around her, what she is capable of if let. Loved the relationship with her daughter and how thoroughly the author researched all professional fields the book deals with. Looking forward to Garmus next book.

I love the story, the characters, the rather unusual topic and also feel for the women in the 50ies, in fact it quite upsets me to see how they were treated! thanks for this beautiful book which I couldn’t stop to listen to!

Yes! One of the books that eclipse work, sleep, eating and in spite of the (relatively) happy end, leaves you sad - that it is finished.

Highly Addictive Book

A must read! The story is unique and amazing. The characters are very interesting. The topic is so important. Not just for women, also for men. My favorite book of 2023. I don’t think I’ll read or listen to a better book this year. Great narrative!
