the author couldn't decide if the protagonist should be an inexperienced rookie or a hardened veteran and got neither in the end. The book tries to tells us all the time how the protagonist had to grow up fast and had to harden herself while still young, but then everytime it counts she acts like a child.
Also the tacked-on love drama is so unneeded and makes the protagonist look even more imature.
Very disappointing and unsatisfying.
