Pippa Ingleside will do anything to escape her ruthless uncle, but even she is surprised when her previously dormant powers aid her. Surprised and afraid. Her newly discovered abilities may have saved her but they condemn her at the same time.
Disguised as a boy, she travels to the home of Lord Ashbourne to find her one and only friend. To maintain her disguise and put a roof over her head, Pippa accepts a job as page of the wardrobe to Ash, a man as mysterious as he is dangerous. If he discovers her lie, he'll send her back to her uncle and her witchcraft will be exposed to the authorities.
As the lies build it gets harder for Pippa to maintain her disguise, especially when she falls in love with the man she must serve.
Her only hope is to find her friend. But when the friend is murdered, Ash investigates and where he goes, his page goes too. Together they uncover a web of secrets that could destroy Ash and condemn Pippa. But that's nothing compared to what happens when he discovers she's a woman....

And initialy it was a pretty solid Book IMO. decent pacing, decetn characters and progression, no overlong dwelling on one single point etc, and i went through the audiobook pretty fast. But then suddenly the story completely jumped of the cliff with the characters suddenly behaving massive agaisnt character and against all logical reasoning. Despite beeing a spy/investigator, when some random character tells him his fiancee gave her secret information of him, he doesn't wonder why she would do that, or ask for even a single hint of evidence. No, he just takes that random persons word at face value and stomps of to accuse his fiance. Not ask her about it, just plain accuse and curse her to her face convinced she was guilty for some unknown reason.
I dropped the book at that point and am refunding it, and the Author should be ashamed for ever putting such utter garbage to paper/audio. WOuld have worked if he simpyl asked her and a misunderstanding ensued, or if the other person actually at least made up some kind of evidence beyond a 'someone close to you told me, just believe it'. But no, the man who literally worked for a decade of his life to find information and investiagte stuff just chose to randomly believe that and go hard at his fiance...
TL;DR: This Author wrote other books that are nice. This one is some of the worst garbage i have ever read. Stick to her other works if oyu want to read stuff from her.
