Über diesen Titel

From Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Emma Slate comes a brand-new cowboy biker series for fans of Hart of Dixie and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

When my fiancé leaves me because I can’t have children, I do the only thing I can think of . . .

I run away to my family’s ranch in Idaho to hide from my feelings and nurse my wounded heart.

I expect the comforts of home, the solitude of the mountains, and long horseback rides through the forest.

What I don’t expect is my father’s new ranch hand.

Declan Brewer.

Tall. Dark. Rugged.

And he looks just as delicious on a horse as he does a Harley.

He’s got a wicked smile full of promises . . .

Our chemistry is undeniable, and in one forbidden moment, we combust. But instead of burning out, our energy rages into a passionate inferno.

Between bouts of pleasure in Declan’s arms and the laughter we share in his bed, he chips away at the armor I’ve erected around my heart.

Declan is everything I’ve ever wanted, but I’m scared he won’t stay when he finds out the truth . . .

I’m broken, and I don’t know if love will be enough.

This was my first read by Emma Slate, and as a total sucker for cowboy romance, this book—with its gorgeous cover—had been sitting on my TBR forever. I was just patiently waiting for the audiobook release, and I’m happy to report: it did not disappoint.

After diving into some pretty heavy, dark reads lately, this story felt like a breath of fresh air. Declan is the kind of MMC I love as a reset—all green flags. He’s hot, rugged, a shameless flirt, rides horses and motorcycles (yes please), and the way he calls Hadley “bear snack”? Adorable. Absolutely melted.

Hadley is a very likable FMC—young, but mature for her age. I really appreciated that the drama surrounding her ex didn’t overshadow her banter and connection with Declan. No unnecessary excuses, no dragged-out misunderstandings—she actually allows herself to explore what’s building between them, which was refreshing.

The spice was steamy, just the right amount for a cozy cowboy romance. That said, while the fertility issue played a very present and important role in the story, the reason behind it was never revealed, which felt a bit odd and unfinished to me.

One small personal gripe: I really would’ve loved chapters from Declan’s POV. Not getting that was a bit of a bummer. However, the duet narration definitely made up for it.

Vanessa Moyen’s voice is so warm and feminine—she was excellent as Hadley and brought a lovely emotional softness to the story. Sean Masters is always a treat, but it was especially nice to hear him in a narration that leaned more towards light and bright than intense or dark.

Overall, Huckleberry Hill was a heartwarming, cute, easy read—the perfect palate cleanser after heavier books.
