Über diesen Titel

“Enough plot twists to give a reader whiplash.” —Cosmopolitan

From New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Young comes the start of a thrilling, subversive new series about a girls-only boarding school with a terrifying secret and the friends who will stop at nothing to protect each other.

Some of the prettiest flowers have the sharpest thorns.

The Girls of Innovations Academy are beautiful and well-behaved—it says so on their report cards. Under the watchful gaze of their Guardian, they receive a well-rounded education that promises to make them better. Obedient girls, free from arrogance or defiance. Free from troublesome opinions or individual interests.

But the girls’ carefully controlled existence may not be quite as it appears. As Mena and her friends uncover the dark secrets of what’s actually happening there—and who they really are—the girls of Innovations Academy will learn to fight back.

Bringing the trademark plot twists and high-octane drama that made The Program a bestselling and award-winning series, Suzanne Young launches a new series that confronts some of today’s most pressing ethical questions.

I liked the setup and the world. But then it started to feel predictable. Also could not get my brain to accept that someone who was never exposed to any concept of equality has all of a sudden such a fully formed sense of right and wrong.

Liked the beginning, struggled to finish

Very interesting idea and so close to reality that it hurts sometimes. Not a book which keeps you on your toes the whole time reading it but a very meaningful one.

Strong feminist fiction

I was fairly bored throughout the first half of the book. It was a story told over and over- girls taken advantage of at a school and they didn’t even know. The dialogue/narration was fairly boring.
The ending however has made me curious enough to possibly check out the rest of the series. 3 stars until the end.

Slow beginning, interesting end

I don't want to give any spoilers, so I'll just say a lot of the plot is predictable. The start is strong, but the rest of the book feels sort of flat. The characters of the girls, especially, seem to be pretty much one - dimensional. There's the sassy one, the smart one, the fraidy cat... And the relationships between them frequently lack motivation.

Nevertheless, there are some fun twists and interesting moments.

The reading is so-so. Nothing wrong with it, but it becomes annoyingly whiney at times, and all the girls except two sound the same (and so do several of the men).

Overall, it was an okay read, but I don't think I'll bother with the sequels.

Not that original
