I LOVE the concept of themed summoning-magic.
So I weep, since this story misses pretty much every opportunity to show us "frontier-specific summoning":
Here a few survivalist and homesteadding summoning ideas, just so you can understand my pain that nothing like that is in here.
• summon tools, summoning is not limited to minions
• summon static objects like "temporary shelter", "inventory chest", "crafting stations", "a torch that gives light and wards off beasts/monsters"
• dryads that function as traps, or do the foraging food for you
None of that is in this story!
What this story should not contain, but does is "dungeon diving" and "quests that take you away from building your homestead".
But the author thought to put those in, for some reason.
And NO, the story does not get better. I've gone up to book 8 in the hopes of something good happening, purely because the premise of a FRONTIER SUMMONER drew me in, but no. Nothing.
That said: Have a wonderful day.... and read something better... like Mob Sorcery by K D Robertson. That author delivers what he promises on the title, unlike this one.
