Über diesen Titel

Once known to all in her village as the rector's daughter, Lucy is now a mother herself - to a wonderful 18-month-old son, Ned. Upon discovering that she is expecting a second child, Lucy and Robert are delighted. In anticipation of the new arrival, Lucy is set on expanding her nursery staff. When Agnes, her current nurse, recommends her cousin, it seems like the perfect solution.

But trouble arrives along with the new nursery maid from London. Polly's flirtations provoke fisticuffs in the servants' hall and tumult in the village tavern, and on her afternoon off, she fails to return to the Kurland Estate. When a farmer finds her lifeless body in a drainage ditch, Lucy and Robert fear foul play.

To their consternation, they learn their new nursery maid was not who they thought. As Lucy's sister, Anna, leaves the rectory and moves in to watch over Ned, the couple's search for the truth leads them to the London theater world, where aristocrats purchase their mistresses, and into danger. But the real threat strikes all too close to home....

The characters are likeable, the plot is plausible yet not too complicated and the narrator has a pleasant voice. Just the perfect series for everyday listening during chores or before sleep.

I love this series!

Unfortunately, this one was even worse than the last one. The plot is both slow and preposterous, the minor characters are as dumb and annoying as ever, but this time the main characters, especially Robert, were simply infuriating. So full of themselves, yet so slow-witted… a far cry from the great detectives they think themselves to be. Robert claims to be the moral supporter of equality - yet he acts like the grand master who expects loyalty from everyone, even though he treats them abominably?! I wish the narrator had done more to make Robert less condescending and at least a little bit likeable! Such a shame that there is so much of him in this episode - Lucy plays a much more passive role. (Which makes you wonder even more why the author decided to send her on a four-day carriage ride to London and then back again, in spite of her pregnancy and the fact that she had several miscarriages…)

Not worth the time…

What I mostly liked was the speaker. Pleasant British English. Nice zu listen to.
The story was a bit boring at times.

Okay
