This course includes Lessons 1-5 from the Mandarin Chinese Level 1 program featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Mandarin Chinese.

Why? Here's a short explanation:
- Each unit starts with a short conversation, which I consider quite helpful. It's nice to see what is possible to understand/say after that lesson and also good to evaluate the personal skills.
- All words/phrases that are learned are repeated after a proper delay (as advertised). If you keep the specified speed of about one unit per day, you will repeat things sometimes just before you were about to forget them. (Not really applicable in units 1-5, but in later parts..)
- The Chinese pronunciation is pretty good (rated by Chinese people!)
And since I found it hard to figure out which lesson / book is the right one to start with, here are the words/phrases you will learn in this one:
