Chaque is the first full-length novel in the Sapien Overlords universe. In many ways, it is the first novel of the series. What originally started as a short story about the future dystopian city with class differences based on race began to develop into a whole universe of possibilities.
Later stories followed Chaque, the main character, on his voyage of self-discovery. He takes an unwilling journey through the Zzone, a megacity of the future, traveling from the uppermost levels to the fringes and beyond. In his quest, he unveils the truth behind it all and realizes the world is a more complex place than it originally seemed to him.
An unwilling participant in the events surrounding a world unlike the one we live in today yet eerily similar, Chaque represents everyone of us. He is looking for purpose in a digital age where most people are satisfied with being online at Zetwork, their behavior tracked and tailored by those in power. The truth behind the Zzone is more sinister than he ever imagined, to the point Chaque ponders living in such a place at all.
