Literary nonfiction.

Caliban and the Witch is a history of the body in the transition to capitalism. Moving from the peasant revolts of the late Middle Ages to the witch hunts and the rise of mechanical philosophy, Federici investigates the capitalist rationalization of social reproduction. She shows how the battle against the rebel body and the conflict between body and mind are essential conditions for the development of labor power and self-ownership, two central principles of modern social organization. Re-recorded in 2025.

This was a deep exploration of how capitalism, misogyny and colonialism intertwine, examined through the lens of the witch hunts. 10/10

An insightful listen

Loads of information, specifically on the 1st half when she describes the background facts that lead to the witch hunts

A must read to understand Patriarchy

This book was so much more than I expected. A very comprehensive read through the (historic) basis of capitalism, class division, the situation of women in society (aka the history of misandry...) "witch -hunt", colonialism and racism. Even when you think you know it all, you will be delighted to learn you didn't! Although it is a quite sad read at times, lot of things make so much more sense afterwards and I wish all of it would be much more researched and taught in schools and everywhere on a broader basis as in many ways a lot of these past events still transpire into today's ideals and societies, while we feel so much more modern today.
Also I'm not a person who likes medieval history novels as in my head it's all mixed up in time very easily, but this book manager to get me involved in the past and I feel like I am far better at sorting through the ages, eras and events now as it is a logical whole after reading this book (although not much made logical sense in these days...).

A must ready for everyone
