Or maybe it's all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she's gotten in over her head. Or maybe it's because if she fails - she's dead.
If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she'll even live long to collect her fee....

It's exciting, opens many opportunities for settings if the stereotypes aren't too strong.
Blade song is a good book to read for fun and an even better audiobook.
Many figures with (as foreshadowed) interesting stories/future development appear.
It's sad that some logical aspects of the case the main character works on were very vague.
It doesnt let you "guess along" because there are just too little clues for the reader to try to follow or come to an own solution.
Some of the werebeast and vampire clichés as well as the troubled-past-main-lead-trope were annoying.
All in all the setting is well done and the character dynamics promising though.
