Liebe die Serie, hab sie seit 29 Jahren nicht mehr gelesen, jetzt fürs pendeln als Hörbuch.
Fand den Singsang des Sprechers erstmal gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber hab mich dann dran gewöhnt und die Charaktere bringt er super zum Leben...

Great book, but the audio recording is not done well. the narrators voice is not very clear so I needed to turn up the volume a lot compared to other Titels. I did get used to his style of reading after some hours.

This one's a bit of a slow burner, which I mean in all the best ways. Characters (and places!) gradually gather more depth and richness as the story goes on, and what becomes of every single one in the end is something you as a reader will care about more than you'll be happy to admit. The realm may be fictional, but the society described is reminiscent of early medieval Europe, both on a political and technological level, and the characters are so well fleshed out there is little danger of feeling alienated. Their names alone are a masterstroke, always simple and often infused with a meaning that immediately invokes an image, one that is memorable and helps your orientation as you read. This is a welcome change to other fantasy names that are often made-up words and therefore less accessible (though there are a couple of those, too, in Assassin's Apprentice).
One word on Paul Boehmer as narrator: It's true that his style of reading takes some getting used to. But I enjoy his reading pace, for me it mirrors and helps along the "slow burning" effect of the plot itself. The story unfolds in all its richness and I find myself invested. Job done. On to book two!

The book is and will be forever one of my favourites. The speaker brings the characters to life and even taught me some better pronunciations on the way.
I would always recommend it if something in fantasy is looked for.
