Diving into a revolutionary new video game, Marcus and his friends escape a stagnant society, entering into a world that defies their wildest imaginations. But from the moment that he logs in, Marcus finds himself separated from his friends and thrown into a remote village under attack by a horde of goblins.

The story being told here has been enjoyable so far. A pleasant mix of action and comedy can be found here, set in an interesting and compelling world.

The only negatives ive found were that some descriptions for things like enemies were being used multiple times in a row.

For example: "The creature took a vicious swing at me, I repelled the creatures advance and retaliated with a vicious kick to its chest, sending the creature flying a couple of feet before landing on its back."

Apart from that, theres not much to complain about here, and I will definitely add the second book ok the series to my library.

gute Story ist vom Stiel her etwas erwachsener als viele andere weniger schmückendes Beiwerk. ich empfehle es auf jedenfalls und werde die Serie weiter hören.

Das Positive:
* Der Sprecher, Luke Daniels, ist einfach großartig.
* Die litRPG-Elemente sind handwerklich gut; es macht Spaß, diesem VMMORPG zuzuhören.
* Die Story ist einigermaßen spannend.
* Die Charaktere sind nicht so flach wie in anderen litRPGs.

Das Negative:
* Die Action ist manchmal langweilig.
* Die Charaktere sind etwas blass.

Geschmackssache:
* Für meinen Geschmack wird zu wenig von der realen Welt erzählt, aus der die Charaktere stammen. Dadurch, dass sie nie über diese reden, fühlt sich das Ganze sehr unecht an.
* Die letzten litRPGs, die ich gehört habe, krankten alle daran, dass sie etwas frauenfeindlich/sexistisch waren. Ascend Online ist da eine wohltuende Ausnahme. Nicht, dass es besonders interessante Frauencharaktere hat, aber es reduziert Frauen immerhin nicht bloß zu Sexpüppchen.

Fazit:
Eines der besseren litRPGs mit einem der besten Sprecher überhaupt.

Für ein LitRPG ist es Okay. Durch den Umstand das es ein Videospiel ist, verliert es an einigen Stellen stark an Glaubwürdigkeit was die Tragik angeht.
