The Seven Kingdoms are divided by revolt and blood feud, and winter approaches like an angry beast. From there, the renegade Brother Mance Rayder will lead them South towards the Wall.

Outstanding
As a fan of the TV show, it's understandable that you may have mixed feelings about the audiobook of George R.R. Martin’s masterpiece. However, Roy Dotrice left another legacy as the speaker. However, it's worth giving the books a chance as they offer a different perspective and storyline. Roy's interpretation of some characters may also differ, but that's what makes it a unique artwork. If you approach it with an open mind and appreciate it for what it is, you'll have plenty of hours of enjoyment.

Bücher großartig, Sprecher leider schlecht
Ich bin ein großer Fan der Saga, habe die bisher vorhandenen Bücher verschlungen und seither mehrfach als Hörbuch auf Deutsch gehört.
nun zum ersten mal auf Englisch und ich bin maßlos enttäuscht. Es liegt dich nicht daran, dass ich den deutschen Sprecher gewohnt bin.Ich habe schon oft Hörbücher in den Sprachen geswitscht und kann da durchaus differenzieren.
Roy Dotrice bemüht sich durch unterschiedliche Tonlagen und Akzente den Charakteren Leben einzuhauchen. grundsätzlich ist dagegen auch nichts zu sagen, nur sollte man sich dafür mit den Charakteren auch auseinandersetzen. Varys, den sehr schlauen Eunuch durch Lispeln etwas dümmlich klingen zu lassen und den sehr karismatischen Tywen Lannister wie einen schnaufenden, uralten Mann klingen zu lassen ist nun wirklich Grund verkehrt. Aber spätestens als ich die überaus gewitzte kleine Messandai das erste mal mit angestrengt chinesischem Akzent gehört habe, war bei mir der Zauber wirklich vorbei.
Somit ist Roy Dotrice, für mich zumindest, eine unterirdische Enttäuschung. Ich hoffe das Hörbuch wird irgendwann noch einmal auf Englisch mit anderem Sprecher aufgenommen.

Excellent book, good reading
The book itself is great and very enjoyable. The reader manages to make it a very immersive experience. The only aspect I would take issue with is the changing of certain characters' voices and accents from the previous audiobooks (e.g. Tywin Lannister). This is probably down to the long time since the previous book was released.

Great Fantasy
As I love the books of Fire and Ice I bought the audible version as well. And they are as capturing and thrilling as the book, even though I already knew the story. Roy Dotrice speaks great .

Great story, of course
Some voices the speaker mimics are really hard to stand. Story is grand though and very addictive

I'm overwhelmed and underwhelmed at the same time
90 + hours and the story is possibly halfway told ... There were times (mainly in the first half of the third volume) where I was ready to chuck it all and give up. I didn't care anymore about most characters, I couldn't keep the soldiers Ns knoghfz and outlaws apart anymore.
Also, I read criticism of Roy Dotrice's voice before I was starting and at first I couldn't understand it. At the end of all 3 volumes it grates on my nerves. Yes, he's done an admirable job with all the different voices - but to be honest, less distinctions wouldn't have made much difference. And not one of his female characters has a likeable voice, they all sound like old crones.
At this point, I need a break.

Spannend und komplex
Ich finde ärgerlich, dass Roy Dotrice jauf einmal die weiblichen Stimmen so quäkig liest, vorher hat er sie mit normaler Stimme gelesen. Besonders bei Danaerys finde ich das furchtbar. Sonst liest er nach wie vor super
