Nice setup in the middle ages with tons of details make it interesting to follow, however the main story is a copy from his other books and too predictable.

Wer die Säulen der Erde möchte, wird dieses Prequel lieben. Eine Geschichte um das Jahr 1000, mitreißend und spannend bis zum letzten Satz. Mit John Lee als Sprecher ein genussvolles Hörvergnügen.

Best Ken Follett ever

I really enjoyed this story. Ken Follett managed again to make the story interesting. The good ones were great, rightful and gifted and the bad ones evil and nasty. And even knowing this I fevered with Edward,Ragna and Allred all the time and nearly could stop.
John Lee also did a great job giving a voice to the book with all its characters.
The only bad thing with this book is, that it is definitely the last of the series.

A worthy 4th part of the pillars of the earth

Almost as captivating as the other Kingsbridge novels - but just almost. Plausibe characters and exciting story, but the patterns get a bit repetitive. One of the clergy always has to be a villain, and the (future) prior of Kingsbridge weathers all obstacles. Edgar as ancestor of the future builders is just spotless without a single character flaw. Ragna - his love interest - is a bit more complex and less predictable.
Still, I liked listening, and wouldn't have missed it regardless.

Good story, but old pattern

Die Guten sind nur gut, die Bösen sind nur böse.
Die Huten sehen gut aus, die Bösen schauen auch gleich immer hinterhältig drein.

So kann man es zusammenfassen.
Ken Follett schreibt in seinem Buch ganz eng am Trivialen.
Die Handlung ist sehr vorhersehbar und am Ende geht alles sehr schnell, als hätte der Autor jetzt keine Lust mehr gehabt noch irgendetwas besonderes zu schreiben. Alles in allem bei weitem nicht so toll wie zum Beispiel“Säulen der Erde“.

Jedoch immer wieder hervorragend: John Lee, der das Buch einfach so sensationell vorliest, dass man es nicht zu Seite legen mag.

Auch, wenn bei diesen Teilen von Ken Follett natürlich einiges vorhersagbar ist, versteht er es doch, die Spannung bis zum Schluss aufrecht zu halten und - wie immer - meisterlich zu erzählen.
John Lee drückt der Geschichte noch seinen unverwechselbaren Stempel auf.
Von allen vier Teilen fand ich diesen fast am besten.

It's a good book for itself and good to listen to. If you read the earlier Kingsbridge books you can stop listening in the last quarter and make up the rest of the plot yourself, maybe shout out "Bingo" evertime you guessed right ;-) I should have done that. Even if the main story isn't surprising at all it's nice to be shown around in an other time and deserves 4 stars in my opinion.
