First published in nine volumes over the years from 1759 to 1767, The life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman is a, comic, bawdy, humorous, satirical novel. It purports to be the autobiography of Tristram Shandy beginning at his conception but, famously, Sterne's egoistic character digresses and side-tracks the listener with so many colorful observations of his family and cast of supporting characters that his birth doesn't take place until Vol 3.

In pursuit of her dream to be a writer, Nora journeys from her family in Canada after she accepts a job as a journalist in Jamaica and then later, the United States. In the autobiography, the young author recounts her early life and writing career. Only seventeen years old and with just ten dollars in her pocket, Nora sets sail for Jamaica west Indies, and when this new career as a newspaper writer takes an unwelcome turn, Nora ends up in Chicago, where she struggles to find a good job and make it as a journalist and storyteller.

In the 1930s, young women with big dreams came to New York City to pursue careers, meet men, and make friends. Charles "Lucky" Luciano, an Italian-American gangster, was one of the people who preyed on them. This fictionalized first-person account of a girl from a small town in the northeast US details how she became ensnared in the party circuit and eventually worked as a prostitute in Luciano's houses.
