Finlay Donovan - single mum, floundering crime writer and accidental hit-woman - is, once again, struggling to finish her crime novel. Ever since someone misinterpreted her talking about her new book, she has been busier than ever working as a hit-woman and taking on the life she usually reserves for her characters. On the bright side, the only dead body she's dealt with lately is that of her daughter's pet goldfish. On the not-so-bright side, someone wants her ex-husband dead.

Ever since running away from home as a teen, Hope Callahan has lived a rough life, often on the other side of the law. When a drug deal goes bad, she’s found in the desert beaten and nearly dead by Ozzie Byrd, a scruffy old guy in an RV. Ozzie has his own criminal past, but through him, Hope is given a chance at a new life. Will she grab this unexpected and unusual opportunity, or run from it, trying to stay alive on her own?

Kidnapped at 16, Maggie O’Bannen returns home after seven years to be reunited with her father. No longer the idealistic girl she once was, her return is meant to help put her demons to rest. Discovering who was behind her abduction is just the beginning. Murder with no apparent motive and no suspect soon brings her under the scrutiny of the local sheriff.
