""A defense of fiction and a lesson in the art of reading."" —New York Times Book Review ""Testaments Betrayed is to be savored paragraph by paragraph. . . . It must be purchased, read, pondered, and argued within the margins. And frequently reread."" — Washington Post A brilliant and...

We are told that the moral life is a matter of choices, and that a good person is someone who chooses well. Iris Murdoch spent a lifetime quietly dismantling that comfortable picture. For her, the decisive moral work happens long before any choice arrives, in the invisible labor of how we look at the world. By the time we act, the seeing is already done, and the seeing is nearly everything. This book takes the luminous, demanding philosophy of one of the twentieth century’s most original minds and sets it loose in our own restless age.

The Old Testament is one of the most carefully studied books in the world’s history. It is also one of the most misunderstood. This founding text of the world’s three largest religions is also, Erich Fromm argues, an impressive radical humanist text. He sees the stories of mankind’s transition from divided clans to united brotherhood as a tribute to the human power to overcome. Filled with hopeful symbolism, You Shall Be as Gods shows how the Old Testament and its tradition is an inspiring ode to human potential.

A metaphysical interpretation of the New Testament, which teaches oneness as the only truth, and surrender (or letting go) as the practice that leads to spiritual enlightenment. NTI stresses the importance of willingness, acceptance, gratitude, mind-watching, and trust on the path of enlightenment while teaching the listener to let go of unworthiness, fear, guilt, and false (or separation-based) thinking. NTI has been described as a love letter and as a loving approach to letting go of the ego. NTI teaches us how to experience the oneness of God here and now.

This is Leo Tolstoy's integration of the four biblical gospels into a single account of the life of Jesus. The Gospel in Brief is an intriguing fusion of biblical texts and Tolstoy's own religious views. Tolstoy explains that his goal is a “solution to the problem of life," not a theological or historical statement. He therefore ignores issues like Jesus' genealogy and divinity, focusing instead on the words and teachings of Jesus, stripped of what he regarded as the Church's distortions and focus on dogma and ritual.

The Book of Enoch has re-emerged from the sands of time to shed more light on the background and context of New Testament. With copies discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls, it is now apparent that this book was well-known and respected before the time of Christ. What did Jesus and the Apostles think of this book? The evidence is in the New Testament itself that they knew the Book of Enoch well and often made allusion to it, or expressed similar ideas in their teaching.
